The Story of an Hour
The story of an hour is such a passionate story. A mindless reading might not allow seeing how profound this reading is. It is so full of imagery. Moreover, the writer let so much to the readers' imagination. I believe that I will get a feeling of it, and another reader with different life experience will get a different one based on that.
Besides, It caught my attention the fact the writer raised the issue of women rights and feminism in a period when women had none. The writer was advance to her time, as she could foresee that women will demand a better place in society. They deserve more than just being a wife, mother, and daughter.
Mrs. Mallard subconsciously was expecting freedom that never came true. It all happened when a friend of the family, Richard, brought the news that Mr. Mallard passed away in a train accident. Since the news was communicated hastily, without due assessment of its reality, it seems to me that Richards had other interest in that situation. He was probably waiting for this occasion. I will dare to say that he was attracted to Mrs. Mallard, and this was his opportunity without staining nobody's name.
Mrs. Mallard is described to be a young and beautiful woman. But, with an unfortunate life, probably full of suffering that it was reflected in her facial features.
When Mrs. Mallard received the news of the death of her husband, she fell in something like a trance. At first, I thought she was going to die sadness; the burden of her husband passing was such that she could not contain herself. But, it turned out to be that her joy for the change of circumstances was overwhelming. The window scene is so significant, how she realized that her possible years of submission to someone's will, which she considered to be a crime, were over. It was the beginning of life as she was expecting it to be. The scene compared to sexual feelings, and it awoke in her something similar to the climax of a sexual relationship.
At last, everything was a big misunderstanding. The husband did not die, and he appeared at the house. She died of a heart attack for the overwhelming "joy" of seeing her husband alive. In the end, the appearances were well kept since nothing scandalous happened.
